Starksboro is probably best known as an agricultural town with a growing commuter population. The town has worked hard to keep its rural heritage. It contains striking juxtapositions of commercial buildings and farmyards, old Colonials and modern, architect-designed homes. Camels Hump, the best-known mountain in Vermont but not quite the tallest, is impossible to miss from the stretch of Vermont 17 in the southeastern part of Starksboro. The brook trout, on the other hand, are wily and very easy to miss; it takes careful attention to hook one and reel it in. There are any number of roadside pull-overs where one can stop the car and watch the mountain streams.
