St. Albans City:

Vermont's Railroad City is the county seat of Franklin County and its biggest municipality. Its centerpiece is Taylor Park, which was showcased during the city's 1997 Bicentennial Celebration. It drew thousands to the downtown St. Albans Historic District, which includes the St. Albans Historical Museum, Franklin Superior Court, churches and businesses. Countering the decline of the once vital railroad industry, the local economy has diversified with St. Albans becoming home to a large U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service regional processing center and the St. Albans Cooperative Creamery. The latter's approximately 600 farmer-members annually produce roughly a billion pounds of milk. St. Albans, host of the annual Vermont Maple Festival in April, was the site of the northernmost incursion of the Civil War - the St. Albans Raid.
