MUSEUMS AND HISTORIC SITES
Shelburne Farms, off Harbor Road: an agricultural estate
of more than 1,000 acres with a working farm, historic barns, and
a farmyard where children can meet a variety of farm animals. The
farm offers tours, trails, hay rides, hands-on educational programs
and superb views of Lake Champlain. The Vermont Symphony Orchestra
and Vermont Mozart Festival hold concerts at the farm during the
summer.
Shelburne Museum, U.S. 7: one of the finest collections
of Americana housed in the former mansion, barns and other collected
architecture of the Webb family. Their nationally-renowned diverse
collections of artifacts and memorabilia are based in 37 exhibition
buildings including 20 historic structures.
National Museum of the Morgan Horse, 3 Bostwick Road: a
museum which tells the story of the Morgan horse which became a
national influence in the 19th century, and their breeder, Justin
Morgan. There are exhibits based around the First Vermont Cavalry
and the first National Morgan Horse Show.
Shelburne Historic District: based in the village of Shelburne
nestled at a crossroads on U.S. 7, the area includes The Shelburne
Inn, established in 1796 and one of Vermont's oldest continually
operating inns. Other buildings of historic interest include Shelburne
Country Store, opened in 1869, three churches, the library and school.
