  The Town of North Hero:

This picturesque island in Lake Champlain is the "shire town" or county seat of Grand Isle County. It was part of the original land grant of October 1779, by the Republic of Vermont to Ethan Allen and his associates "The Green Mountain Boys." The two-island grant was dubbed "Two Heroes," and eventually this northern of the two became North Hero. Today it is a premier recreation and vacation area that manages to retain its rural serenity. It offers year-round fishing, and a full range of summer activities, including camping, biking, hiking, lakeside dining, swimming and boating. The world-famous Herrmann's Royal Lipizzan Stallions (subject of the movie, "Miracle of the White Stallions") make this island their summer home.
