Hinesburg Census 2000
Story |
The Town of Hinesburg:
In 1791, this small farming town witnessed the opening of its first sawmill. By 1850, that business had been joined by a machine shop, a wheelwright operation, two tanneries, two saddlers, two shoemakers and mills that produced woolens, grist and potash. In the 1980s, a still bucolic Hinesburg - bisected by Vermont 116 and its increasing traffic load - began undergoing suburbanization with the influx of condominiums and lavish private homes. Yet, the region remains an environmentally friendly area of forests, fields and streams. Lake Iroquois is a popular beach and boating destination. Hinesburg is also home to a popular Independence Day parade.
