The village of Essex Junction is a part of the Town of Essex, but is also chartered as a separate political entity. Village residents elect their own local representatives, appoint their own village manager, and raise money through taxes to support some of their own services. They maintain their own elementary schools. Village residents share some resources with town residents and pay for them through municipal taxes which are levied in addition to taxes that fund the village budget.
