FAIRS AND FESTIVALS

January: Vermont Farm Show

February: Winter Concert with the Vermont Philharmonic Orchestra at the Barre Opera House.

May: Annual Vermont Square & Round Dance Convention. Features square, round, clogging and line dancing at Spaulding High School.

July: Barre Homecoming, three days of festivities including parade and fireworks.

MUSEUMS AND HISTORIC SITES

Barre Museum: Aldrich Public Library, 9 Washington Street: The museum is on the second floor of the library and includes primitive American portraits of leading Barre citizens, photographs, models, tool collections and memorabilia of settlers.

Barre Historic District: Based around Currier Park in downtown Barre, the area is rich with reminders of the boom period of the granite industry. Local architecture includes many examples of Italianate and Queen Anne houses of the late 19th and early 20th century.

Mt. Hope Cemetery, off Maple Avenue, Vermont Route 14: The 75-acre cemetery dates back to 1895 and is filled with beautiful examples of the granite carving which made the area famous.

Rock of Ages Quarry, Barre Town: The world's deepest granite quarries, through which this city built its economy in the 19th century, are located southeast of the city in the town of Barre. Tours are given of the quarries in the summer.
